Let me tell you a bit about myself and my ideas behind PONSblog.
I was born in Germany and moved to beautiful England when I was eleven. But I really didn’t like the idea of having to move to a foreign country at first. Can you imagine what it’s like to be torn away from your friends just because your dad gets a job somewhere else?
Well, luckily I soon started to really enjoy living in England!
I spent seven years at the European School in Culham (near Oxford) where I met lots of people from different countries across Europe. It was a great experience!
After school I then moved to London to study Geography and after a year at university there, I went on to study music and English for teaching in Würzburg. Today, I’m still based in this lovely little Franconian town. At the moment I’m writing my doctoral thesis in English Language Education/Teaching.
I really enjoy travelling, especially through Asia and I often go back to England to visit friends and enjoy the city life in London. I’m into lots of different kinds of music, playing it or listening to it, and I also have a genuine interest in global topics that affect our lives: the environment, health, politics and intercultural issues.
As my field of studies deals with teaching the English language, I hope to help you improve your English! And, I hope that my contributions to this blog will encourage you to keep your English up to date! For learning English in a country where that language isn’t spoken, the internet provides great possibilities for improving your language skills.
That is also why I have included the category “Improve your English!”. I will give you tips on how to express your opinion in English so that you have a guideline for writing comments.
In the category “Good reads” and “Good watches” I will give you tips on which books or films are fun to read/watch! This can also help you to improve your English!
I think it would be great to use this blog as a tool for exchanging opinions. Due to my experiences – having grown up in Germany and England – I hope to give you an insight into the way in which I perceive both countries. I’m very interested in your views, so please feel free to comment on what I have written and on what other readers think! Passing on ideas and discussing current issues will help you to practice your English!
